Macaroni and Cheese

Cathy's Recipe

I've been preparing this recipe for more than 40 years, and people often ask me to bring it to family gatherings because it's so delicious. Old-fashioned German mac and cheese, modified

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound cooked and drained macaroni
  • 1 large regular cheez wiz
  • 2-3 tablespoons of butter
  • 2-3 tablespoons of flour
  • 2 cups milk or half and half

Directions:

  • Cooking Time: 1 hour
  • In a saucepan, melt the butter and stir in the flour until well combined; the mixture will be quite thick.
  • Add milk or 1/2 and 1/2 and stir until it thickens. This will take about 4-5 minutes. Make sure you stir, or the mixture will burn at the bottom of the pan.
  • When done, pour the macaroni into a casserole dish and add the white sauce. Stir well.
  • Take the Cheez Wiz and melt it in another sauce pan.
  • When melted pour over the macaroni and white sauce
  • Bake in a 350-degree oven for about an hour.

"I normally bake the casserole covered with foil for the first 30 to 35 minutes, then take the foil off for the last 15 to 20 minutes." The cheese won't turn brown in this manner.

Enjoy!
