Chocolate Icing

Nancy’s Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups softened butter, not melted.
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (I use Ghirardelli)
  • 5 cups confectioners sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon espresso powder

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Start by creaming the butter in a large bowl. Next, add the cocoa powder and whisk it together thoroughly.

3. Gradually incorporate the confectioners' sugar and milk into the cocoa mixture, beginning with 1 cup of sugar and then adding 1 tablespoon of milk. After each tablespoon is added, increase the mixer speed to high for about a minute. Repeat this process until all the sugar and milk are completely blended.

4.Afterward, mix in the vanilla and espresso powder until everything is well combined.

5. If the frosting appears too dry, add additional milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach the desired consistency. On the other hand, if the mixture is too runny, add confectioners' sugar, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches the appropriate thickness.

Enjoy!
